Matthew 5:13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
What is Christian Influence? Salt and light are tremendously important - could life be sustained without either salt or light?
A King asked his three daughters how much they loved him. Two of them replied that they loved him better than all the gold and silver in the world. The youngest said she loved him better than salt. The king was not pleased with her answer, as he thought that salt was not very palatable. But the cook, overhearing the remark, put no salt in anything for several days and the king did not

Addressing His disciples and those within the multitude of listeners, Jesus stated that "you are the salt of the earth." What a wonderful thing to say. Salt was both valuable and necessary. Just as something tasteless cannot be eaten without salt and would be loathsome (see Job 6:6, 7), the earth would have no value or would be loathsome without Christians.
How many things have been said to be mankind's new hope: science, education, psychology, technology, social reform, military strength...? How much has the world improved in light of all of these advancements (or supposed advancements)? I wonder how advanced they were in Sodom and Gomorrah. No matter their advancements, they would have been saved if there had been more salt found within the cities.
Jesus's Challenge: ...but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything....
Salt has a distinctive quality and as Christians we must be different from the world. If salt and meat were made of the same substance - the salt would do no good! Being a Christian should be written in our lives not on our wrists or hidden away. It should be seen in all the things that we do! What are we good for, if all we do is conform to the ways of the world?
In my life both past and current I have great difficulty in certain areas. I would appreciate prayers and understanding from my peers for my past mistakes. I long to be "Salt" and not just a worthless crystal that appears like salt on the surface but contains none of the qualities that preserves the earth.
